Here is an older booklet from Australia: "Ju-Jitsu: Exposure of all Methods of Self-Defence. Police and Japanese secrets of attack and defence".

It says that the booklet is written by one Higami Kasatu, but there are no information given about the man anywhere inside. Neither are there given a year of printing. Should one judge by the look on the people in the photographs, then I'd say it is probably from the 1920s. The booklet is a total of 22 pages, most of this is text.

It is hard to tell where these methods and techniques are from. Some ot the things are presented by Japanese exponents dressed in the uniform of the day. The pictures here are almost identical to the ones you'll find in: The Complete Kano Jiu-Jitsu (Judo), by H. Irving Hancock and Katsukuma Higashi. There are some tiny differences, but the suites being used are identical, and the persons demonstrating seems to be the same. There are no doubt then that these techniques are Kano Jiu-Jitsu.

There are also some techniques where a gentleman dressed in what seems to be a police uniform defends against a gun-wielding attacker. The pictures look like that they have ceen cropped to hide the defender.

Maybe this booklet has been assembled from other available sources at the time? At least the stuff doesn't quite blend together, that's for sure. And true to form there are some quite bold statements being made: "Comprising among the chapters every known useful trick and chip of self-defence hithereto kept secret by experts, now exposed for the first time within."

There are some interesting moments here, but nothing to write home about really. This statement was the best part that I could find: "(...) In such encounters keep your head; your temper belongs to you - keep it!"

In other words, not much if you want to practise ju jitsu. A nice little booklet all the same, if only for the historical parts. Now, if someone could inform me who this Higami Kasatu was...
